Network Page
An IT network( Information Technology Network) refers to a group of interconnected devices that
communicate with each other to share resources and data .
These devices include:
- Computers
- Servers
- Printers
- Phones
- Networking equipment (routers and switches)
Basic components of an IT network
- Nodes - Any devices connected to the network. For example ( computers, phones , servers etc)
- Router - Directs data between devices and the internet.
- Switch - Connects devices within the same local network( LAN) and passes data between them.
- Firewall - Protects the network from unauthorized acess or cyber threats.
- Acess Point - Allows wireless devices to contect to the network.
Types of IT Networks
- Local Area Network (LAN):
Connects devices in a limited area such as an office or home.
Wide Area Network (WAN):
Connects devices over a large geographical area such as across cities and countries.
Metropolitan Area Network (MAN):
Covers a larger area such as a city or large campus.
Personal Area Network (PAN):
Connects devices around an individual user such as a smart phone and a Bluetooth headset.
